How to join google groups without gmail

I want to join symfony2@googlegroup.com, but I do not want to make my gmail too heavy. The right way is:

symfony2+subscribe@googlegroups.com

Sent email to this address, then you are joined.

Any google groups, use groupname+subscribe@googlegroups.com, that works.
